With more than 50 conferences, workshops and events related to the latest trends in supercomputing, science visualization and applications, CICESE, UABC and CETYS will cohost the Fifth Annual International Congress on Supercomputing (ISUM 2014) from March 18-21 in the city of Ensenada, Baja California.
ISUM 2014 will feature more than 12 keynote conferences by distinguised researchers from Europe, Asia and the United States, as well as several academic presentations, roundtables and workshops that will discuss important trends, findings and industry needs in supercomputing, as science research demands an ever-increasing amount of data processing capacity.
“Ensenada is an extraordinary development area, because of our dedicated human resources in computer sciences. We actually ‘export’ qualified personnel to the rest of Mexico, so it’s natural that we would organize a congress like ISUM here, where we will find many leading international researchers in high performance computing (HPC), as well as many big players from the global supercomputing industry,” said Salvador Castañeda Ávila, a representative for CICESE’s ISUM organization commmittee.
More tan 150 scientists, students and computer science professors will attend the conference sessions next week, which will be held in the Coral Marina Hotel just north of the Ensenada Port. An overview of the conference program can be found at http://isum2014.cicese.mx
Confirmed keynote speakers include Pascal Bouvry, from the Technological University of Luxembourg, a leading expert in cloud computing; Thomas DeFanti, from Qualcomm Institute-UC San Diego, who will talk about big screen displays for big data; Zhihui DU, from Tsinghua University in China, who will deal with optimization of robot services in the cloud.
Technology keynotes will feature Alberto Di Meglio, Openlab Technology director for CERN’s Large Hadron Collisioner (LHC), and David Barkai, Higher Education Business Develoment Director for Cray. Other speakers include David Garza Marín, director for AMD Engineering in Latin America, in representation of AMD and HP, as well as Dr. César Díaz Torrejón, general coordinator for the National Supercomputing Center of IPICYT IN San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
CICESE is a founding member of ISUM, a national consorcium that encompasses Mexico’s top universities and research centers, which focuses on giving momentum to the use of high performance computing in this country.
ISUM 2014 is partly sponsored by Intel, AMD, HP, CompuPartes & Accesorios, Centro Nacional de Supercómputo, Lufac, Cray, Qualisys, Dell, CadGrafics, IBM, Enter, Cisco, InFocus and XYratex, among others.
